While they induct several living women into the Hall each year\, they also place heavy emphasis on uncovering the stories of extraordinary women and their accomplishments\, stories that heretofore have received little or no recognition. In the early years\, they concentrated on honoring women who were firsts in their fields\, and today celebrate the fact that “firsts” is a shrinking criteria for induction as women move toward more equal participation in society.
