DESCRIPTION:The Hartford Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority\, Inc. presents its 32nd annual Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. Scholarship Breakfast. The event celebrates the life and legacy of Dr. King and raises scholarship funds for deserving African-American high school senior girls in Greater Hartford. With corporate and community sponsorship\, nearly 140 talented high school senior girls have been awarded nearly $325\,000 in scholarship funds. The breakfast features keynote speaker Dr. Freeman A. Hrabowski\, III — President of UMBC (University of Maryland\, Baltimore County) and a consultant on science and math education to national agencies\, universities\, and school systems. Hrabowski\, was named by President Barack Obama to chair the President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for African Americans.
