DESCRIPTION:The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship breakfast is the premier scholarship fundraising event for the Hartford Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority\, Inc. and is one of the largest Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebrations in the State of Connecticut. Corporate and community partners help the Hartford Alumnae Chapter to raise funds for renewable scholarships granted to young women in the Greater Hartford area pursuing higher education. DESCRIPTION:The Archbishop’s St. Patrick’s Day Breakfast will be held on Friday\, March 15th from 7:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. at the Connecticut Convention Center.   Doors  open at 7:00 a.m. for coffee/tea and early networkers. We are delighted to announce that this year’s Speaker is native Irishman\, Award Winning Humorist\, and Author\, Conor Cunneen\, who will be sharing his unique humor and insight with our guests. We look forward to seeing old FACS Friends and making new FACS Friends at this staple event which kicks off St. Patrick’s Day celebrations for all our guests.  Aside from enjoying the comic wit of Conor Cunneen\, you will be entertained by the melodious sounds of bagpiper\, Pat Whelan and mesmerizing moves of Irish step dancers from our Catholic High Schools.  You will be inspired by our student speaker who embodies all that is wonderful in our Catholic school students.  As always\, you will have the opportunity to network with other area business people and experience the camaraderie that is unique to this event.  Come join us and help FACS support and celebrate Catholic School students.

The event celebrates the life and legacy of Dr. King and raises scholarship funds for deserving African-American high school senior girls in Greater Hartford. With corporate and community sponsorship\, nearly 140 talented high school senior girls have been awarded nearly $325\,000 in scholarship funds. The breakfast features keynote speaker Dr. Freeman A. Hrabowski\, III — President of UMBC (University of Maryland\, Baltimore County) and a consultant on science and math education to national agencies\, universities\, and school systems. Hrabowski\, was named by President Barack Obama to chair the President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for African Americans.
