How accessible is the CT Convention Center?With a 2 ½ hour drive, the CT Convention Center is accessible to 23 million people – a demographic fact that rivals only Manhattan, where only 1 million more people are located within the same radius. Four major northeast Interstates converge on or near Hartford: Interstate90 (Massachusetts Turnpike) and Interstate 95 (New York Thruway) are located 30 minutes north and south of the city. Interstates 84 and 91 intersect in downtown Hartford. The Connecticut Convention Center is most easily accessible from a dedicated exit on Interstate 91, #29-A, north or south. The exit is marked “Capital Area Exit/Convention Center.” Where can I stay?More than 6,000 hotel rooms are located in the Greater Hartford Area (within 30 minutes/30 miles). In addition, work rules within the building allow exhibitors to carry equipment in, or wheel equipment in on two wheels. Exhibitors can then perform their own booth set-up, which dramatically impacts service rates in a very positive way. What’s going on in Hartford?More than $2.75 billion in new development projects are underway in the historic state capital of Hartford. The Connecticut Convention Center is the centerpiece of the $775 million riverfront development known as Adriaen’s Landing. The project also includes the Marriott Hartford Downtown and the Connecticut Science Center, which is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2008. While Hartford’s downtown is only two blocks away, a retail, residential & entertainment district is also being developed directly across the street from the Convention Center. The annual highlight is the distinct beauty of Fall in New England, with leaves turning from verdant green to brilliant red, orange and yellow from mid-September to the beginning or middle of November. The peak of “leaf-peeping” season in Connecticut is during the month of October, which coincides with many local agricultural and harvest fairs. Despite the northeast’s population density, Connecticut remains approximately 75 percent undeveloped. There are more than 160 dairy farms located throughout the state. How can I get my event listed on the CT Convention center website?The Connecticut Convention Center posts public and city-wide events on its website calendar. What does the CT Convention Center offer?The Connecticut Convention Center is Southern New England’s largest meetings and convention facility, with 140,000 square feet of exhibit space; 25,000 square feet of meeting space and a 40,000 square foot ballroom. It is attached to the Marriott Hartford Downtown, a 22-story, 409-room headquarter hotel that earned a AAA 4-Diamond designation in its first year of operation. It is the only 4-Diamond hotel property in Hartford and it features more than 13,500 square feet of ballroom and meeting space. How do I get around Hartford?Downtown Hartford is a very walkable place. From the Union Station train and bus station to the Riverfront is about a 10 minute walk, on average. For greater convenience, the Hartford Star Shuttle is a free downtown shuttle that leaves the Connecticut Convention Center at the riverfront every 15 minutes. It takes passengers to all downtown hotels and by most restaurants, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturday from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Special schedules are also arranged for city-wide conventions. Is there parking at the CT Convention Center?An 8-level parking garage for approximately 2,300 standard-sized vehicles is attached to the Connecticut Convention Center. Oversized vehicles can be accommodated on an onsite surface parking lot with approximately 125 spaces. An additional 650 standard spaces are available directly across the street from the convention center on Columbus Boulevard for special evening and weekend events. All parking facilities at the CTCC are managed by LAZ Parking. The LAZ Parking office can be reached at 860-728-2598 for parking rates, oversized vehicle details and handicap parking. Where are the Restaurants and Shopping areas located?The City of Hartford combines a vibrant arts and culture scene with a wide variety of nightlife options created by more than 400 restaurants, bars and clubs throughout the city’s 17 neighborhoods. Within 3 blocks of the Connecticut Convention Center, there are more than two dozen restaurants and eateries, including an upscale Italian trattoria at the attached Marriott Hartford Downtown The most concentrated area of activity is in downtown Hartford, between Union Station and Main Street. Hartford’s North, South and West ends also offer a broad array of ethnic and upscale dining and nightclub options. Hartford offers a variety of specialty shops, including fine clothing and upscale gift shops, as well as basic conveniences, gourmet grocery, neighborhood and ethnic markets. Nearby and neighboring towns such as West Hartford, Wethersfield, and Glastonbury offer bustling and quaint town centers that combine historic attractions, fine and casual dining, antiques and high end boutique shopping. Major shopping outlets within a 10 to 15-mile radius include the Westfarms Mall on the West Hartford/Farmington town line; Somerset Square in Glastonbury; Buckland Hills Mall in Manchester; and Evergreen Walk in South Windsor. Does the CT Convention center host weddings?The Connecticut Convention Center hosts weddings in its ballroom space, ranging from 12,000 to 40,000 square feet. The minimum number of attendees is 250, with a food and beverage minimum of $20 per person.
