I would like to remind our community that although we are not considered a metropolis like Boston, New York or Philadelphia, we can sure host a phenomenal convention.

As chairwoman of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.’s 76th North Atlantic Regional Conference, I only agreed to chair our recent five-day conference if it was held in Hartford. The overwhelming evaluation from our 2,400 attendees was that this was the best conference ever.

The Connecticut Convention Center and its superb chef, as well as the conveniently located hotels, truly rolled out the pink carpet. With the help of the visitors bureau and our other vendors we were able to paint the city pink and green (our sorority colors).

We also wanted to ensure that our legacy of supreme service to all mankind was rendered, hence our successful book drive, during which members donated 2,631 books in addition to monetary donations.

So, please, encourage your organizations to economically support our vibrant state capital. We have more to offer than meets the eye.
